Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from peeq users
Getting Started
peeq is a calendar aggregation service. It pulls together calendars from different sources (Google, Apple, Outlook, etc.) and displays them all in one place. Think of it as a family command center or a way to see everyone's schedule at a glance.
peeq is for display, not editing. It runs on a dedicated device — a tablet on the wall, an e-ink display, an old phone — where anyone can glance at the schedule. And it works with any calendar service, not just Google.
Nope! Any device with a web browser works. Most people use an old tablet (iPad, Android) that they already have. You can also use e-ink displays, old phones, or just view it on your computer. See our Display Options page for ideas.
Display & Setup
We've run old iPads (from 2015!) continuously for over a year with no burn-in. The key is dimming the screen overnight. We recommend setting up an automation to dim to 1% around 8pm and back to 50% in the morning. See our iPad Setup Guide for details.
peeq offers three views:
- Week View (default): Shows ~2 weeks of events. Best for large tablets.
- Today View: Just today's events. Great for conference rooms or e-ink displays.
- Now & Next View: Ultra-minimal, showing only current and next event. Perfect for small screens.
On iPad, the easiest way is to enable Guided Access (Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access). This locks the iPad to peeq and prevents the screen from sleeping. See our iPad Setup Guide for step-by-step instructions.
Yes! If you have a HomeKit motion sensor and an Apple Home Hub, you can set up automations to brighten the screen when motion is detected. It's a bit advanced but works great. We link to a guide in our iPad Setup Guide.
Calendars & Syncing
Each calendar service has a different process. We have step-by-step instructions for the major ones in our Calendar Setup Guide. Look for options like "Share", "Publish", or "Get iCal link" in your calendar settings.
peeq automatically syncs your calendars throughout the day. New events typically appear within 15-30 minutes. If you need to see something immediately, you can trigger a manual sync from your dashboard.
No, peeq is display-only. To add or edit events, use your regular calendar app (Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, etc.). Changes will sync to peeq automatically.
Privacy & Security
We only store events for a rolling window — about a week in the past and two weeks in the future. Old events are automatically deleted. We don't keep your entire calendar history. See our About page for more on privacy.
We use "magic links" sent to your email instead of passwords. This is actually more secure: you can't forget, reuse, or have your password stolen. Each link works only once and expires after a short time.
Yes! Go to your Profile settings and request account deletion. We'll send a confirmation email, and once confirmed, all your data (calendars, events, connected displays) will be permanently deleted.
Troubleshooting
A few things to try:
- Make sure the calendar feed URL is still valid (they sometimes change)
- Check that your calendar is actually shared/published (not just accessible to you)
- Try a manual sync from the dashboard
- If using Google, make sure you're using the "secret address in iCal format"
This is usually a timezone issue. Check that your peeq location is set correctly (Profile → Location). peeq uses your ZIP code to determine your timezone. Also verify that your source calendar has the correct timezone set.
